Planning Location Shoots 101- Arrive Early!

  • Arrive early.

When it comes to location shoots, “early is on time and on time is late”. Often, clients will arrive early to ensure time for them to add any finishing touches to hair, makeup, etc. You do not want to be put in the awkward position of arriving after your clients.
  • Figure out parking.

Figuring out where to park can be a hassle. By arriving early, you will be able to find parking and let your clients know where will be most convenient for them to park as well.
  • Scout the area.

Once you arrive, scout the area around you. Make a mental note of anything around you that stands out as something that would make for interesting use in your photos.
  • Set up your equipment.

The time before your client arrives is an ideal time to set up your camera and any equipment you may need. This will give you time to make sure everything is working properly and will help calm any nerves you may have. Additionally, you will be able to focus on your client when they arrive rather than rushing to set up.
