A checklist of everything you will need for a successful location shoot with a client.

Arrive early to the location! Scout the area a bit to get familiar with your surroundings and what you have to work with. Set up your camera and equipment. Take some test shots and make sure the settings are correct. When the client arrives you will be ready and able to greet them rather than rushing to set up.

Be sure your client is still able to come to the session at the scheduled time. It may be smart to require a deposit before hand to reduce cancellation and ensure payment in the event the client is unable to make it.

It may seem obvious, but many photographers forget to check the weather and end up caught in the rain. Don’t let this be you! Check the weather before and reschedule if needed. Be sure to dress appropriately and comfortable so that you can work at your best.

Get prepared BEFORE the Photo Session! Charge your camera! Make sure everything works properly and set your camera settings ahead of time. Have some ideas in mind of poses and the types of shots you want to capture.

Be sure to communicate with your client prior to the Photo Session! Get a clear idea of what they want out of the session and how they plan to use the photos. This will help you choose the location that best compliments their wants and needs.
