Planning Location Shoots 101- Communicate!

  • Communicate with your client.

Take time to communicate with your client if possible. This will be a lot better than having the client book you online and just assuming that things will go smoothly during the session. By communicating with the client, you will be able to get a better idea of who you will be working with and what kind of photos they would like.
  • Ask questions.

Asking questions can eliminate a lot of confusion and help you shoot with more intention during the session. Questions should include things such as how your client plans on using the photos, what their overall vision is (if they have photos they have been using for inspiration, ask to see them), and if there is any particular editing style they prefer.
  • Break the ice.

By breaking the ice, your client will feel a lot more at ease during the session. You typically want to capture your client smiling during the session and this will be a lot easier for them to do if they are comfortable around you rather than feeling awkward or timid.
